Continuing Education Course Renewals — What Schools Need to Know
Georgia Real Estate Commission | Effective January 1, 2027

The Georgia Real Estate Commission is proud to announce a significant and long-overdue modernization of continuing education in Georgia — one designed to ensure that every licensee receives training that is current, relevant, and genuinely reflective of today’s real estate market.

What Is Changing

Effective January 1, 2027, all Commission-approved continuing education courses with an approval code below 76118 will be end-dated and unavailable for student credit. Going forward, course approvals will be issued on a five-year cycle, keeping content fresh and aligned with the evolving needs of licensees and the consumers they serve. This applies to continuing education courses only — pre-licensing and post-licensing courses are not affected currently.

How to Know If Your Course Is Affected

Check your active course list via the GREC website. Any course with an approval code lower than 76118 will be retired on January 1, 2027. Schools have access to their full active course list and are encouraged to review it now.

If You Want to Continue Teaching an Older Course

You may submit the course for new approval. Submitting a previously approved course does not guarantee re-approval — each submission is reviewed on its own merits under Commission Rule 520-2-.04. If approved, you will receive a new course code. You may keep the same course name. When submitting, indicate whether you want the old course code end-dated immediately or prefer to keep both codes active temporarily. Note that only five course submissions per school per week are accepted.

Important: If You Don’t Need New Courses Yet, Wait

If your current catalog of courses approved 2023 and later gives you sufficient offerings, there is no need to submit new courses now. Waiting until 2027 to submit new courses means your five-year approval period will begin then — maximizing the life of your approval.

Online Courses — Action Required

If your school offers online courses with extended completion windows (six months or more), you must assess how many students will be affected after January 1, 2027. Students who purchased a course before January 1, 2027 and complete it after that date under a new course code for the same title will receive credit, provided the completion is properly recorded. GREC tracks credit by course code, not course title — coordinate with the Education Department on how to handle affected students.

What Is Not Changing

ARELLO certifications for distance education operate on a three-year cycle issued by ARELLO and are separate from Commission course approvals. However, please note that Commission approval is valid for five years. Because ARELLO certifications run three years and Commission approval runs five, a course cannot simply renew its ARELLO certification for another three years if doing so would exceed the five-year Commission approval window.

Keeping continuing education current is how we honor that trust — and how we ensure Georgia’s real estate professionals are equipped to meet the demands of a changing market with knowledge, skill, and confidence.
